Recent professional work

I am really proud of the projects I have worked on so far in my career. I love working on websites and social media platforms, partly because this means I am constantly learning new things and meeting new people.

Senior communications officer

November 2018 – present

I am the website and social media lead for Evelina London. My work is very wide-ranging, from working with clinicians on useful information about hospital and community services to
creating an award-winning blog with our patients.

I am particularly proud of my work creating important messaging about the COVID-19 pandemic and my work creating a new history section for the website, using drawings by children. I regularly write website articles, highlighting the incredible achievements of our teams, and staff blogs, showcasing the range of careers available in the NHS.

I work as part of an exceptional communications team. In December 2025, the Evelina London communications team won the “team of the year award” presented by the Evelina London CEO. In November 2024, the Evelina London communications team won a Corp Comms Award for our work connected to the opening of the children’s day surgery unit.

I recognise the importance of continuous professional development. In 2024, I passed a online course on artificial intelligence provided by Oxford University, and I also successfully completed the Evelina London leadership and management online course (ELLMO).

Previous roles

Digital officer at Guy’s and St Thomas’
May 2015 – November 2018

Prior to my current role, I worked in the central digital team at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, helping to manage guysandstthomas.nhs.uk and @GSTTnhs on Facebook. The role also involved helping to manage the intranet, used by over 18,000 staff.

During this time, I was involved in a range of interesting website work, from significantly improving content about our cardiovascular services to creating website pages for the opening of Guy’s Cancer. In 2017, Guy’s and St Thomas’ communications team was named as the Health and Local Government Communications Team of the Year, recognising our work during the Westminster and London Bridge attacks.

In December 2019, I created an online “New Years Eve Calendar” depicting the Trust’s sites, which I drew and painted myself (outside of my normal working hours). I uploaded this to the website, and linked its ‘windows’ to website stories about the Trust from earlier in the year, celebrating the amazing research, events and other activities that had taken place.

A new window opened every day, and I worked with a colleague to create short social media videos to promote this. The calendar had over 4,000 visits and earned me a highly coveted “Fit for the Future” badge!

I have regularly written history articles on page 21 of the Trust’s magazine. These articles have included:

“Getting to know Flo”
In issue 32, we marked the bicentenary of Florence Nightingale with an article about her life and impact.

“History’s deadliest pandemic”
In issue 29, I explore the 1918 Spanish Flu and an exhibition about this at the Florence Nightingale Museum.

“Take a seat with Keats”
In issue 30, I delve into Keats’ career as an apothecary and his time working at Guy’s hospital.

“A hospital built with love”
In issue 28, I discuss how Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild’s marriage led to the foundation of Evelina London.

“An extraordinary secret”
In issue 27, I focus on the extraordinary live of James Barry, who was born Margaret Ann Bulkley.

Other work on this magazine has included an interview with a patient living with fibromyalgia and a feature about our chaplains.

Other roles

Prior to joining Guy’s and St Thomas’, I worked as an online and offline copywriter for companies such as House of Fraser, SineQN, COINS Foundation and InfinitySDC.

I am very collaborative, and I really enjoy working on projects alongside graphic designers, website developers, senior teams and others. Many of my previous roles have involved launching new websites and migrating content. Working for multiple companies means I have worked with several different content management systems.

At House of Fraser, I was responsible for all technical copy on their website, and often worked with the legal team to make their information easier to read. I also often worked with the user experience (UX) team to optimise language during checkout. In addition, I improved their content about personal shopping and occasionally contributed to product descriptions (for example when the site was migrated).

At InfinitySDC, highlights included working on the successful bid that turned the press and broadcast centre on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park into HereEast. I also helped to create materials like brochures, exhibition stands, launched their social media channels and helped to plan their new website.

For COINS Foundation and SineQN, I oversaw the creation of new websites, and I worked on additional marketing materials, such as emails using MailChimp.

Voluntary work

I enjoy opportunities to give back.

During the pandemic, I raised over £2,000 to support patients in need by cycling 53 miles on a static bike.

My voluntary work has included working as Executive Editor at Poems in the Waiting Room, supporting the annual Cancer Survivors’ Day fashion show at Guy’s Cancer and working at Crisis at Christmas.

When I was 21, I also spent a summer in Cape Town, writing features and news articles for The Big Issue South Africa. Read Disappearing Acts, a feature about nurses leaving South Africa, which I co-wrote with the journalist Elles van Gelder.
